Comprehensive Employee Screening Process
All employees must successfully complete the following before providing services:
1. Formal Application & Interview
- Detailed employment application
- Structured behavioral interview to assess professionalism, communication skills, and values alignment
2. Identity & Work Authorization Verification
- Government-issued photo identification
- I-9 employment eligibility verification
3. Criminal Background Checks
- State and national criminal history checks
- Sex offender registry screening
- Abuse and neglect registry checks (where required)
- Ongoing re-screening in accordance with state regulations
4. Reference Verification
- Minimum of two professional references
- Verification of prior caregiving or relevant work experience
5. Education & Credential Review
- Verification of required certifications (CNA, HHA, PCA, CPR/First Aid, etc., as applicable)
- License validation for any regulated positions
6. Health & Fitness for Duty
- TB screening and health clearance (as required by state regulations)
- Proof of immunizations where applicable
7. Drug & Alcohol Screening (when required or risk-based)
8. Mandatory Orientation & Training
- HCBS regulations and participant rights
- Abuse, neglect, and exploitation prevention
- Infection control and universal precautions
- HIPAA and confidentiality
- Emergency procedures and incident reporting
- Person-centered care principles
- Cultural competency and professional boundaries
Employees are not permitted to work independently until all screening and training requirements are completed and documented.
